Prepare for a rewarding role managing IT projects, or learn new skills for your current project-management position, with a Graduate Certificate in IT Project Management from VU.

Project management has become vital to the success of modern IT projects. This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of project management with specific application to IT projects. To this end, the Graduate Certificate in IT Project Management is based firmly on the international standard Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®), and specifically addresses contemporary issues in managing IT projects.

On successful completion of this course, students will have skills and knowledge to work constructively in IT project management teams. You will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of key theoretical project management frameworks and processes and apply them to a range of project management scenarios
  • develop an understanding of projects, the roles and responsibilities of a project manager, recommendations and professional decisions, and communicate with specialist and non-specialist stakeholders
  • conceptually map the most recent developments in IT theory and IT applications and justify their utility in various contexts
  • critically apply information technology knowledge and skills to new and uncertain situations in professional practice exhibiting a high level of personal autonomy and accountability.

Applicants for this course will need to meet the entry criteria outlined below. If you don’t meet the entry criteria, you may be able to gain entry by first completing a different course. We call this a ‘pathway’.

For PhD applicants, we offer a related ‘Integrated PhD’ which allows you to establish relevant skills before beginning your research.

You may also be eligible for course ‘credits’, where you are granted a unit or units towards your qualification for equivalent previous study or work experience, so you can graduate sooner.
